Known as the UpState, this area experiences all four seasons, with none of them lasting too long! Average January highs are in the 50s with lows in the 30s—the mild temperatures provide for year ‘round outdoor activities.

And the activities are as varied and plentiful as you will find anywhere. There are numerous waterfalls in the area, hiking trails, whitewater rafting on the Chattooga River, championship golf courses—several golf communities—lovely parks, hunting, fishing and water sports of every kind.

This is tournament bass and trout fishing country, and a great place to teach the kids and grand kids all about the art of fishing.
     

For culture, dining and shopping, there are the cities of Seneca, Walhalla, Westminster and, of course, Clemson, SC is just down the road and offers all the advantages of a major university town. Clemson’s Brooks Center for the Performing Arts brings in talent from around the world. Greenville is just 55 miles east or Atlanta is 90 miles west with major airports at both locations.

There is a strong art community in the Upstate with gallery openings, museums, shops and events happening throughout the year.

And there are wonderful less-traveled places to explore in the area: The Highlands just up the road in North Carolina offers charming antique and specialty shops—plus great golf. Helen, GA just 45 miles W-NW offers boutique shopping and interesting restaurants. And there’s Clayton GA, Anderson, SC, and Pendleton, SC with its historic downtown area and too many more to list. Lake Keowee is a great starting point for rambles and exploring when the urge hits.

The Clemson Tigers have a strong following in the Upstate and whether it is football, basketball or baseball, games are always exciting.

Lake Keowee is just a four-hour drive or less from six NASCAR courses. And hunters enjoy the wide variety of game available in this area.

If snow sports are your thing, the mountains of North Carolina are just a couple hours away offering snow boarding, down hill and cross country skiing and snowmobiling.

And the ocean is only 3.5 hours away – Charleston, Savannah or points in between.
